I would like to share my new knowledge exposure while I have been requested by Digital Marketing Lecturer to attend “Talk on UX for Business at SEEK Asia”. To be frank, my first impression to this talk was like “what is UX??? And this keyword is new to me, how was this keyword link to the business world. Nevertheless, maybe I can get the clear picture after that, let get into that, to know what is going to be after that”.
The day of the event on Saturday which is on 21-April-18, I was there around 8.50am. Besides our classmate, there were a lot of youngsters which is very energetic and outspoken. I bet most of them have an entrepreneurial spirit and they come to seek for opportunity or expose themselves to new knowledge, compared to me which was totally from another planet showed a gap of contrast, a kinda shameful.
The talk started with 5 panels/speakers self-introduced themselves with their own and their and brief about company background, objective, mission, and vision. Basically, all the info I got was some of them was young entrepreneurs at start-up level, one of them was the consultant to another client. Next, my expectation was that there was something needed to show out from the projector. Unfortunately, just heard the announcer said “some technical issue needs to be resolved at the projector, blar blar blar”, started up the verbal talk straight away until the end of the talk, no one talked about the technical issue which able to resolve or not. By the way, this was reduced the interest to some extent for the audience who was expecting to visual something that was going to talk about. Anyway, the talked started, an interaction between emcee began. After a couple of minutes, after they keep talking and still not explained what is UX and UI meaning in a very direct way, maybe I missed it??? Or I too numb not even catch up their way of explaining it. After I do some search on the internet which tells me that, [SPENCER LANOUE, 2016,] User Experience (UX) is the internal experience that a person has as they interact with every aspect of a company’s products and services. The user interface (UI) is the series of screens, pages, and visual elements – like buttons and icons – that you use to interact with a device. There is still a little bit arguments related to UI significantly influence the UX or vice versa because the final outcome is leading to ROI of product. On the other hand, according to Samer & Hosam, 2018, UI has been researched will significantly be influenced UX as whole but specified in a mobile learning context. Nonetheless, it’s maybe across as general as more and more research going proven that from time to time.
From the talk, one of speaker mentioned that market acquisition is more vital than forming design team, as the speaker highlights that to know the current market, requirement, customer targeting/segmentation is required at the first place before we can start up what product we going to be introduced, searching the right design team to kick-start the business.
Other than that, one of the important message I captured as understand the awareness of the strength of your team and seeking the right team outside to partnership with to build the strong team toward the mission of your business. Further, perhaps the correct implementation way must tight with the business KPI setup to ensure the successful UX plans is on track all the time.
I think that is what I got from the talk, it’s kinda exhausting for me to digest all these info…just a sharing… though…
